March 23, 2020 UPDATE:

Dear Cunningham Orthodontics Families:

In order to protect patients, employees and the community at large from the spread of COVID-19, Cunningham Orthodontics will be closed except for emergency care and will remain closed until further notice. Please read all the information below carefully.

EXISTING PATIENTS: If you have an appointment at Cunningham Orthodontics for routine orthodontic treatment (such as an adjustment of your braces or monitoring/checking an orthodontic device like a retainer, expander or Invisalign), the appointment is canceled and we will be reaching out to work with you to reschedule as soon as we have more information about re-opening. Should you need elastics, please contact us before you run out.

NEW PATIENTS: If you are a new patient, we will be contacting you individually to reschedule the appointment. However, we are looking into virtual consultations, and we will contact you with more information.

EMERGENCY CARE:

If you do require urgent care, please do not come to the office without first calling our office line 512-858-1311, or if you cannot reach us during normal business hours our emergency line is 512-826-1312.

Examples of conditions that may necessitate office visits depending on the circumstances are:

-Swelling of your gums caused by an orthodontic appliance

-Severe wire poke causing pain, ulcerations etc.

-Bleeding in your mouth that does not stop because of an orthodontic appliance

-Infection or a substantial risk caused by an orthodontic appliance

Our physical presence in the office will be limited. We will respond to our patients’ non-emergency calls as quickly as possible, but under the current circumstances our response may be delayed. Thank you in advance for your patience.

March 20, 2020 UPDATE:

Dear Cunningham Orthodontics Families,

“The American Dental Association recognizes the unprecedented and extraordinary circumstances dentists and all health care professionals face related to growing concern about COVID-19,” according to the March 16 statement from ADA President Chad P. Gehani. “The ADA is deeply concerned for the health and well-being of the public and the dental team. In order for dentistry to do its part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the ADA recommends dentists nationwide postpone elective procedures for the next three weeks.”




Dear Cunningham Orthodontic Patient families,


With the rapidly changing challenges brought about by the threat of COVID-19, Coronavirus, we are taking steps to make sure that our patients and our team are protected. We will be continuing to closely monitor any developing situations and keep you informed of any changes in our schedule. As of this time, we are continuing to operate on a normal schedule. PATIENTS WITH SYMPTOMS:

If you or anyone planning to be with you at your appointment answer yes to any of the following questions, we kindly ask that you reschedule your appointment:


  1. Do you or anyone in your household or immediate family have fever or have had fever in the past 14 days?
  2. Have you or anyone in your household or immediate family experienced a recent onset of respiratory problems, such as cough (even a dry cough), sore throat, or difficulty breathing in the past 14 days?
  3. Have you or anyone in your household or immediate family, within the past 14 days, travelled to any hotspot areas of COVID-19?
  4. Have you or anyone in your household or immediate family come into contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?



Extra Family Members at Appointments:

-As a temporary measure, we ask that you limit one extra person accompanying the patient inside if necessary.

-We ask that additional extra family members wait outside of the office. We understand that some parents will need to wait in the car with other children.

-As long as you have your mobile phone with you, we can update you and make the next appointment while you are outside the office.


Schedule & Appointments:

-We will continue with normal business hours for the time being.

-Normal business hours could change based on how this situation progresses within our community.

-In the event you wish to reschedule an appointment for a later date, please contact us at your earliest convenience.

-If your child is immunocompromised, we are happy to reschedule your appointment.


Essential and Non-Essential Appointments:

-Essential: We will encourage keeping appointments for ongoing active treatment that requires doctor oversight and adjustments.

-Non-Essential: We will be rescheduling certain types of appointments to a later date for patients who are coming in for basic retainer checks and periodic recall visits with Dr. Cunningham.


Temporary Reception Room Changes:

-We will be removing communal items that may be touched by multiple people throughout the day such as our coffee/tea bar, books and toys.


Measures We Are Taking:

-We are staying current with the CDC guidelines and updates.

-Our facilities have always been cleaned and disinfected regularly and we will continue to do so even more frequently.

-We will be wiping down all areas of frequent contact, such as bathrooms, door handles, light switches, and arm rests hourly.


What we will ask of you to help:

-We will not allow brushing at the toothbrush sink, so PLEASE BRUSH YOUR TEETH THOROUGHLY PRIOR TO ENTERING OUR OFFICE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT.

-We will provide hand sanitizer and hand soap throughout the office and ask that you use it as soon as you enter our office and throughout if necessary.

-We will also be taking temperatures for anyone entering the office. If you have a temperature over 99.5, you will be asked to leave.

-We may ask that you swish with a 1% hydrogen peroxide solution prior to your appointment and we will provide this in office.

-If you are wearing elastics or Invisalign aligners, please remember to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer prior to removing and replacing elastics and Invisalign aligners.
